Amrut Distillery began as a major supplier of distillate to companies all over India in 1948. By the 60’s, they started specializing, first with rum, then brandy in the ‘70’s, finally settling on malts in the 1980’s and by 2004, they were selling their single malts in restaurants in Glasgow. Known for their experimental casks and rich history, they were a great fit for the latest in Bardstown’s Collaborative Series. A blend of two Indiana rye whiskies, 8 and 9 years old, were finished in Amrut Indian Malt casks, then blended with three Kentucky bourbons ranging in age from 11 to 14 years. The result is red fruit compote with sweet woody smoke on the nose, with vanilla bean and herbal flowers. On the palate, rich and sweet malt are gently spiced with golden honey, nutmeg and orange.
