Les Vignobles Foncalieu
2014 Piquepoul Rosé
Coteaux d’Ensérune, France
$17 per bottle | $183.60 per case

Piquepoul is one of the 13 grapes permitted for use in the southern Rhône’s famous Châteauneuf-du-Pape, but with only 250 acres of it planted it’s a surprise to see it vinified by itself, let alone as a rosé. One taste of our Wine of the Week, though, and you’ll understand why this tiny, five acre vineyard spared their precious supply to make this truly unique and compelling wine. Aromas of rose and creamy strawberry puts one in the mind of Pinot Noir, but the lashing of tart grapefruit and snap of stony mineral that greets the palate give away its southern French origin. Quenching and difficult to put down, it’s great back porch company as well as a fitting match for grilled poultry or pork.- Ryan Stotz, Store Manager, H&F Bottle Shop
