Buried Cane Cabernet Sauvignon
Columbia Valley 2013
$14 | $151.20 per case

It can be tough to find a good everyday Cabernet Sauvignon. Here in the U.S. the majority of Washington State’s vineyards rest at the same latitude as Bordeaux, France – the birthplace of Cabernet Sauvignon. Amongst a handful of under appreciated producers in the area lies Columbia Valley where the Middleton family is arguably the best of the bunch. This is why we’ve chosen their Buried Cane Cabernet Sauvignon as this week’s Wine of the Week. The Middleton Family present wines of real elegance in the cool climate of the region, burying the cane shoots of the vines to protect them from winter frost. In this wine you find familiar Cabernet features. Soft and round on the palate with notes of black currant and cherry flavors but with impressions of a minty herbal lift trumpeting its Columbia Valley origins. Tasteful traces of oak wraps it all up in warm, glowing spice making this wine universally appealing and well-suited to a wide variety of typical winter meals. Full bodied but at a very enjoyable 13.8% alcohol its a perfect pair for hearty stews or braised lamb shank. - Ryan Stotz, Assistant Store Manager, H&F Bottle Shop
