Lot No.40
2012 Release Rye
86 Proof | 750 mL

This is not your typical rye whisky from Canada. Considered by many to be the quintessential Canadian Rye, Lot No.40 is leading the charge in the rising whisky revival in Canada. When Lot No.40 was abruptly discontinued over a decade ago a frantic whisky hunt erupted. Connoisseurs familiar with the spirit scrambled far and wide to grab what might be left. Now with its Fall 2012 re-release in Canada and it’s recent arrival to Georgia the long wait is over. What makes this whisky so great? Lot No.40 has the nice, spicy rye highlights of Canadian straight ryes but is vastly more complex. Distilled in a copper pot still in small batches Lot No.40 comprises of a 90 percent rye and 10 percent malted rye mash build. This lends to blissful floral notes with baking spice of cinnamon, ginger, mace, and nutmeg rounded out with hints of vanilla, toffee, and bright citrus. No ice or water is required, this whisky was made for sipping. For many American drinkers this whisky will redefine how rye whiskey should taste. - Casey Teague, Whisk(e)y Specialist, H&F Bottle Shop
