21st Amendment Brewery
9.7 % ABV | Imperial IPA
$12 | 4 pack
Hop Crisis was conceived in 2007 when a hop shortage sparked 21st Amendment owners Nico Frecia and Shaun O'Sullivan to go against the grain and brew the hoppiest IPA that they could muster, then age it on oak. They even had a little fun turning their shenanigans into a storyline about their alter-egos escaping Alcatraz to "Free the Hops!" While the hop crisis has waned, the beer has become part of the Insurrection Series of periodic and limited releases.
Now, Hop Crisis is back! The latest iteration is made with an abundance of Columbus, Centennial, and Cascade hops and it frankly doesn't skip on malt either. A full body, bolstered by subtle oak oak notes, rounds out the bite of bitter hops. Citrus notes of orange and grapefruit lead into a burst of fresh pine mid-palate, followed by toasted oak that hints at caramel and vanilla.
